This is no other than the “Queen of the Night” - JASMINE.
Used since antiquity for personal adornment and in religious ceremonies, this fragrant flower was cultivated in the gardens of the emperors of China, Iran, India and Nepal. In China, it symbolises the sweetness of women while in India, it symbolises divine hope. Jasmine flowers has been used for medicinal remedies to conditions such as conjunctivitis, skin ulcers as well as an ingredient of the Chinese jasmine tea.
The flowers open in the early morning and there is a rapid and significant loss of essential oil once the buds have opened. Hence, they are picked by hand during the early hours and processed without delay. It takes more than 1ton of the fragile flowers to get about 1kg of the absolute.
The comforting sweetness scent from this flower is considered as one of the most effective essential oils for nervous anxiety, restlessness, night panics and fears built up during night time. Our prized jasmine is harvested in India and it is the multi-petals Jasmine known as Jasmine Sambac.
